Building Update

The carpeting is laid on the first floor and the bookshelves will be put back Tuesday (May 13). The Children's Room carpeting should be finished later in the week. We hope to open the Children's Room within two weeks.

The elevator should be completed by the end of this week. It will need to be inspected before it can be used.

Library Closed

The Library will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 1-3, for carpet laying and bookshelf moving. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

This week the painting will be finished in the new construction areas and the new entrance will be finished. Next week the elevator should be ready for inspection and the lighting on the mezzanine floor finished. We are in the process of getting quotes for new book shelves.

Our new online catalog

The new catalog is now available. Go to the library website for complete information on logging in, searching the catalog, and reserving and renewing books from home.

All adult fiction, nonfiction, audiobooks, and magazines are in the catalog. Videos, genealogy and reference will be finished in about a month. All the young adult books and about half the juvenile books are now in the catalog.

The catalog software is called Liberty3, from SoftLink (an Australian company). Many corporate and medical libraries in the U.S. use their software. In Europe, the software is very popular with university libraries. SoftLink is trying to break into the smaller public library market in the U.S. with this version of their software.

Unlike our old catalog, the new software is maintained outside the library (on servers owned by SoftLink). We no longer need to maintain or backup our system software or daily transactions. All we need is an Internet connection to get to our catalog and circulation system.

Please take some time to get acquainted with the catalog from your home computer. You will need to log in using your library card number as your user name (include the zero). Do not enter a password. You will be able to add a password later, from your account menu, if you wish to do so. If you have not yet done so, please come into the library to update you records and get put into te new system!

Building update

The building project is nearing completion. The new entrance is just about complete and the elevator will be finished in about two weeks. The mezzanine floor is finished, but isn't furnished yet. As soon as we can get new shelving made we will be putting the Young Adult books there.

You will notice some changes in the stacks upstairs. The fiction is now back where it used to be, but is divided now so that the R through Z authors are where the non-fiction used to be. Large print books are now where reference used to be. Reference and genealogy books will be moved into what used to be the director's office. The upstairs will be recarpeted in the next week or two.

The children's room is still closed. It has been repainted and will be recarpeted in two weeks. The shelving is also being reconfigured to accomodate wheelchair access.

We apologize for the inconvenience our construction has caused, but the end result will make it all worth while.
